Quick Summary — Kashmir from Chandigarh 2026

How to Reach Kashmir from Chandigarh

Option 1 — Fly (Recommended)

Fly from Chandigarh Airport (IXC) or Amritsar (ATQ) to Srinagar (SXR). IndiGo and Air India operate this route. Flight time is just 1 hour. This is the fastest and most comfortable option — especially for families and seniors. Return airfares range from ₹4,000–₹9,000 depending on how early you book.

Option 2 — Road (Scenic)

Drive or take a bus: Chandigarh → Jammu (4 hours via NH44) → Srinagar (8–9 hours via Banihal Tunnel, Patnitop, and Jawahar Tunnel). The road journey is spectacular — Patnitop's pine forests and the dramatic Banihal Pass are highlights. Overnight Volvo buses from Chandigarh to Srinagar are available. Total road journey: 12–13 hours.

Best Time to Visit Kashmir from Punjab

Tips from Voyage-Ed — Things Most Blogs Won't Tell You

Can I visit Kashmir in July–August from Chandigarh?
Yes — July and August are peak summer season. Valleys are lush green. Temperatures are pleasant (15–25°C in Srinagar, cooler in Gulmarg and Pahalgam). Rainfall is moderate. It's one of the most beautiful times to see the valley. The only caution is the Jammu-Srinagar highway which can face occasional disruption during heavy rain — flying is safer in monsoon months.
Do I need any permits or documents for Kashmir?
Indian citizens don't need any special permit for Kashmir. Just your Aadhar card or any government-issued photo ID. For Pahalgam and Sonamarg, your hotel will register your details as per local protocol — this is routine. Foreign nationals need additional documentation but this guide covers Indian travelers from Punjab.
How much spending money should I carry for 6 days in Kashmir?
Over and above package cost: Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2 ₹1,400/person, shopping (saffron, shawls, dry fruits) ₹2,000–₹10,000, pony rides ₹400–₹800, tips ₹500, miscellaneous food/snacks ₹800–₹1,500. Total extra: ₹5,000–₹15,000 per person depending on shopping.
